The Polyvagal Protocol

(the Safe and Sound Protocol)

Revolutionizing the way ADHD is managed -- The SSP is the only practical application of Polyvagal Theory -- Doctor Stephen Porges' groundbreaking work on the Polyvagal Theory gives a credible way to explain why people who've been through talk-therapy or CBT so often relapse; The Safe and Sound Protocol is an evidence-based therapeutic tool designed to reset the nervous system and return it to safety.

The SSP is a simple, non-invasive solution that our clients can easily incorporate into their daily routine - Become more aware, regulated, resilient -- And effectively respond to life’s challenges. Discover how the Safe and Sound Protocol can create positive, lasting change.

Are you feeling overwhelmed by stress and anxiety, having difficulty staying focused and reaching your full cognitive potential? We proudly take a unique approach that can help you take control of your life: the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP).

It is a cutting-edge program that has been specifically designed to help individuals manage symptoms of ADHD and promote mental wellness. It is scientifically validated, simple, and non-invasive. By utilizing specially-created sound tracks through headphones, the SSP harnesses the principles of neuroscience to activate the body's natural relaxation response, promoting focus, calm, and clarity.

Based on hierarchical recruitment of the ANS, the SSP trains the middle ear muscles to tune-in to cues of safety signaled by the frequencies of human voice, which stimulates the social engagement system through the neural network associated with listening. The SSP allows for the repatterning of neural networks and improved regulation of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) for lasting change. -- Regular use of the SSP has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety, improve focus, and enhance overall mental wellness.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Who is the Safe and Sound Protocol (the SSP) for?:

The SSP is suitable for children and adults, and has been designed to work with a diverse variety of therapeutic approaches and modalities. Its effectiveness has been proven in a wide range of studies including clinical trials involving individuals with ADHD, children with Autism Spectrum Disorder, along with numerous case studies demonstrating effectiveness with emotional regulation, audio-processing difficulties, auditory sensitivities, social engagement anxiety, inattention, PTSD/trauma, stress, and more. The Safe and Sound Protocol may also serve as a beneficial adjunct therapy intervention for individuals who are not quite yet ready to tackle traditional talk-therapy, and for those who may not currently find themselves in a state where therapy can be helpful for them.

How long does the protocol take to complete?

Research has shown significant results with just five hours of the Safe and Sound Protocol as an intervention. Each client is individually assessed for personalized programming -- Generally, five hours of specially processed music may be administered in 1-hour increments over 5 consecutive days or 30-minute increments over 10 consecutive days. Following successful completion of the intervention, individuals have demonstrated an improved ability to focus in school, work, therapy, and everyday life and they report experiencing a calmed emotional and physiological state.

After you have finished the protocol you may continue working with our ADHD specialists. Instead of reinforcing all the negative behavior from past, you may now find yourself processing emotions with more resilience and greater comprehension.

How is the Safe and Sound Protocol Administered?:

FLORAMENTE: Holistic Solutions offers digital and remote delivery of the SSP -- The platform for the protocol is available for download on any smartphone or tablet. The digital smartphone application for the SSP enables our clients to have access with the SSP intervention in their own home, with remote support. Please note that over-the-ear headphones are a requirement for program facilitation.

It is important that this protocol be facilitated by a professionally certified provider. Your FLORAMENTE: Holistic Solutions, Safe and Sound Protocol provider has dual certifications -- allowing for the facilitation of the Safe and Sound Protocol both in-clinic and remotely.

Upon initial meeting, we will discuss all (if any) concerns, utilize assessments, and track your baseline. Your experience with the SSP will be personalized to meet you where you are. We customize the protocol for each individual client's needs; offering a gradual introduction to the program and extended services when appropriate. Collaboration amongst other professionals may be part of this service if determined a requirement upon assessment.

The Safe and Sound Protocol has Been Shown to Improve the Social Engagement System -- What Does This Mean?:

The Social Engagement System in social communication has been shown to bring about several positive changes, including better facial expressions, increased eye contact, improved speech understanding, increased reciprocal interactions, reduced oppositional behaviors, and decreased social withdrawal. Furthermore, this system has been seen to positively impact behavioral state regulation, including reducing symptoms of hypo/hyperarousal, anxiety, meltdowns, distractibility, and impulsiveness.

The Autonomic Nervous System is also affected. The plays a role in minimizing emotional or mental stress, leading to improved regulation of behaviors. This has been seen in the improvement of vagal regulation, which encompasses digestive processes, sleep, and state regulation.

Sound sensitivity and auditory processing have also been positively impacted by this system, as clients have reported improvements on the SCAN-3, a measure of auditory processing, and an increased ability to distinguish human speech from background noises and hear better in both ears. Additionally, clients have shown improvement in following verbal commands and a decrease in speech/language delays,
